My Hopes For My Future!
Although my journey with computer science has just started at Indiana University, I plan to pursue a CEL license that will help me prepare my students for the future. Through taking these classes I have learned how big an impact technology can have in the classroom. Technology allows teachers to reach all different kinds of learners and bring exciting and innovative new ways of teaching to the classroom. By getting a CEL license I will be able to promote problem solving and creativity. These characteristics will provide students with the ability to make differences in their own lives and the world around them. I am excited to pursue a CEL license because it will not only allow me to make a difference in my future but also my students.
Having read the ISTE standards for computer science teachers I have made the following goals that I want to achieve:
I will work to achieve these goals by continuing to learn about computer science. I plan on teaching my students in engaging ways. I will sometimes teach them with the "unplugged" method so they have a concrete understanding to the way concepts work. Through my lessons students will learn how to problem solve and make positive advancements in the world around them.
Hadi Patrovi’s powerful Tedx Talk emphasizes the importance of computer science in education. Patrovi’s words enforce the ideal that anyone has the ability to change the world through technology. With experience in computer science there is the ability to make improvements in the medical field, entertainment, transportation, etc. Computer science allows them to do more than work with technology. Working with coding allows for children to practice problem solving and creativity helping them learn to make solve problems. After watching Patrovi’s Tedx Talk I think that the integration of Computer Science into our schools is necessary. Patrovi talked about how One Hour of Coding led to 2.5 million kids getting involved. I believe that by implementing coding into schools children will learn how to create things and therefore change the world around them for the better. They will learn more than how to takes tests in school, they will learn how to problem solve. In Valerie Barr and Chris Stephenson’s article it is made clear that computer science in schools is crucial to our future. The second section of the article explains the impact that computer science has on society including programming, hardware design, graphics, software design, logic, etc. It is necessary that computer science skills are taught to students in K-12 because most work fields are eventually going to be influenced and dependent on computing. Like Hadi Patrovi’s Tedx Talk, Valeria Barr and Chris Stephenson’s article reiterates the belief that Computer Science needs to be integrated into schools.
Having read the ISTE standards for computer science teachers I have made the following goals that I want to achieve:
1.Develop and understanding of coding and how to teach it to students of all ages in the classroom.
2.Teach my students how computer science is going to play a role in their futures.
3. Teach my students how to use the computer for safely and in a way that will have positive consequences on society.
I will work to achieve these goals by continuing to learn about computer science. I plan on teaching my students in engaging ways. I will sometimes teach them with the "unplugged" method so they have a concrete understanding to the way concepts work. Great start and ideas, Gabby! I like that you have thought about how you would start preparing yourself to learn more about CS.
