A Little About Me!
Hello everyone! Thank you for visiting my blog! This is my first post back since returning to Indiana for the Fall Semester! As you may know my name is Gabby Shuert and I am a junior at Indiana University Bloomington.
Here I am studying Elementary Education, Spanish and working to earn my Computers Educator's License. This will be my second year in Indiana University CEL program and I am excited to expand my knowledge on technology in the classroom along with my peers. I am from a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan called Bloomfield Hills. Over the summer I am a sailing instructor on Walloon Lake in Northern Michigan. Here I teach students ages 6-18 how to sail all different kinds of boats. Through my experience as a sailing teacher I have developed a passion for teaching and being surrounded by children.
Once I graduate from Indiana University I hope to be an elementary school teacher. Before settling down, I hope to travel all over the world and help teach those in Third World Countries who may not have access to education. Ive always had a passion for traveling and helping those in need, and this has been a dream of mine since I started my education at Indiana University. After my travels, I hope to return to the States and find a job teaching second or third grade. I am looking forward to utilizing my skills in computer education to help my students prepare for their future.
In my future classroom I hope to use technology in ways that are effective, efficient and engaging for students. Throughout my time in the CEL program I have been exposed to many different methods and strategies that can help students become digital learners. Last semester in my W310 class I had the opportunity to create my own lesson plans for a third grade classroom at Lakeview Elementary in Bloomington, Indiana. At Lakeview I taught a variety of different lessons from learning how to use Dash and Dot, to a lesson about stop motion videos using Lego Movie Maker! All my students had a blast learning about different types of technology and the different ways we can use them. On my last day in the classroom, they gave me a book that had 22 hand written letters thanking me for teaching them about technology in the classroom.
My experience in the CEL classroom last semester has me so excited to continue my journey education. This year I am looking forward to learning more about creating and working with technology based curriculum's and how they are benefiting the classroom. I strongly believe that integrating technology into classrooms provides both teachers and students with so many benefits. It can help a teacher with classroom management, a struggling student keep up during class and even provide students with help outside of the classroom. Technology use in the classroom proves to be very effective for teachers in their efforts in communicating with parents which is crucial to having successful students. Lastly I think that technology opens the world of teaching beyond the classroom which allows the world to become the students classroom. It enables us to collaborate with other teachers all around the world and exchange and share different lesson plans and strategies that we have found successful in the classroom.
I am so excited to continue my career in the CEL program this Fall! I encourage you to follow my blog so you can see the different strategies and tools that I have access to and how we can use them in the classroom!
