Playing With Scratch!

Through this project I was able to familiarize myself with the beginner programming website Scratch. Through experimentation and trial and error I was able to refresh my memory on how to create cartoons and games using the different blocks, sprites and backgrounds that the website has to offer. The project that I have shared here is a short little cartoon involving two fish in the deep blue sea. The two fish run into one another when one fish says, "Hey, watch it!" when the other responds, "little fish always move for the bigger fish." The cartoon is short but its a fun and simple example of the many projects that you can create with this website.

In order to get the cartoon to start and the fish to start swimming, you have to click the green flag on the top of the cartoon. once that is clicked, I have written code using the different blocks that will respond. For each sprite (fish), there is a specific line of directions. For one fish when you click the green flag, it "glides" and stops in a certain spot where it makes a sound and  something. For the other sprite (fish), when you click the green flag it glides to a certain spot and responds to the other fish.

Something that works well in my project is that I know how to make the fish move and how to add different features like sound and speech. However, I would like to learn more complex skills and different ways to use these features to create more interesting games/cartoons. Specifically I would like to learn how to make your sprites face a different way. At first I tried this by rotating the fish but instead of it facing another way, it just went upside down. I would also like to learn how to add more prerecorded sounds such as a lion roar or the sound of bubbles. While I was creating my project these are the things I noticed that I needed to learn how to do and things that would add to my cartoon. I am looking forward to continuing practicing using Scratch so that I can one day create interactive games for my students and even teach them how to code using this website.
