The Adventures of Ozzo Bot!

This week in my W210 class I had the opportunity to create a board game that incorporated robots. My group and I decided to make a maize that resembled the path that Lewis and Clark took to travel across the United States. We made our maize out of a poster board and drew their route across the United States. We were able to add embellishments that made the poster have 3D characteristics. We used PlayDoh to create rivers, mountains and trees that covered the board making it bright and interesting. Across the board at different stops there were different facts about Lewis and Clarks journey. We used the Ozzo Bot to get from one end of the United States to the other helping Lewis and Clark complete their exploration.

I really enjoyed working with the Ozzo Bot. This robot is unique compared to any I have worked with before because in order for it to move it follows the color of lines. Basically users can draw a line and depending on what they want him to do they use a certain color or pattern. Based on the color or pattern the robot will stop, go forward, twist, turn etc. It is a really great way for students to experiment with coding and understand that if I use this color/pattern the robot respond in this way. For our project we drew a line through the United States of America that was red and Ozzo Bot was able to follow it all the way to the other side. This is a great robot for students of all ages.

Because I want to teach younger grades like first and second, I think that Ozzo Bot would be a great tool to have in my classroom. Ozzo Bot is easy to use and can be implemented in many different lesson plans. For example I could use the robot to teach computer science and how to program something or I can use it in a history lesson having to do with exploration or timelines. Ozzo Bot is a great way to expose students of all ages to computer science and I look forward to using it in my classroom one day.

  1. Ozobot....Make sure you explore other lesson plans for using this robot as well!

  2. I think it would be awesome if you guys made different stops (with the color codes) for ozobot on the map. Then that's the time that students could tell something(facts, stories)about the area.
